The red dot on the map is where Nanwai King's College is located. We will focus on the wetland area two blocks east of the school. This wetland area has constructed plant communities to display the succession process of wetland plants, and has also created habitats for small animals and insects. It provides recreational, scientific and educational interesting sites. The platform provides people with places to stay, rest, and view.
In this area we will select two circles with a diameter of 130 meters. On the one hand, land in the purple circle is divided into several small islands by waterways, connected by bridges. On the other hand, land in the blue circle is a whole piece, surrounded by rivers.
Students will document using survey methods the areas inside the purple and blue circles. They will then compare the survey results between these two areas and note the differences in soil moisture, temperature, plant specie types, density of plants and the heights of the plants.
Are soil and plants on the several small islands from the ones on a large contiguous area land surrounded by a waterway?
The soil in the purple circle will be more humid and the soil temperature lower in the summer while higher in winter. The plants in the purple circle will be more diverse, but the density and height will be smaller than the blue circle.
