BRAGS

Projects made by our members, creatively spreading our wings

Marie spins natural Alpaca fleece into the most incredible yarns.

Summer and Winter is a beautiful weave structure that was taught at the recent 2022 Fibre Breakaway.  Cara has put the lessons into practice in such a lovely fresh way.

On our recent 2022 Fibre Breakaway, Johanna completed the Inkle Weaving course.  To celebrate her beautiful new strap, she has crocheted and sewn together a bag that matches perfectly.

Marian spun, plied then knitted the cover before attaching it to the frame, making this beautiful bespoke lamp shade.

Gisela sampled linen and gold thread.

Looking forward to seeing a new project using this beautiful combination.

Cozy blanket knitted by Jo-anne Buchanan

Siobhan made some beautifully embroidered cloths for her grandfather's bird table.

Erika created a piece of felt, painted, felted, and sewed to create this wonderful mixed-media tribute to the artist Miro.

April 2022

Jane knitted up a beautifully cabled top using a tweed yarn.  Perfect timing as Autumn creeps in.

April 2022

Marian bought a handpainted braid of superwash Merino from Natural Yarns.

She then spun the singles using the Takhli spindle and then the beautiful Whorl Drop Spindle to ply it all up into 2 ply yarn.  The superwash turned out quite slippery but created a soft and light DK yarn of about 202m.

Handwoven Overshot Patterned Doubleweave, by Jane Smith.

Gisela made tea towels in pinks and blues using cotton from Ingrid.

There is also a beautiful set of placemats with a golden sparkle being saved for a special couple.  These were woven on her little Ashford Katie loom which she purchased while touring New Zealand.

February 2022

Alicia has her crochet hook very busy on the Mystical Lantern blanket.  Something she is making for herself - a big ask for a busy Mom!

February 2022

Pam bought a second hand floor loom and tested out an overshot pattern using Acrylic Yarn.  A warm tv blanket is the result.

With the little bit of warp left over, she left the tie up the same, but changed the treadling order and got a this pattern in the pale pink.

February 2022

Natalie took advantage of the lockdown to put a loom together that had arrived as a bundle of sticks and the result is this beautiful woven blanket.

Mosaic Crochet looks so different on the back and the front, both absolutely beautiful.

This lovely blanket was made my Engela and we hope she will be able to give us a demo at one of the Guild meetings.

Rutendo's family has a wonderful weaving heritage of weaving bark to create versatile mats.  She is doing her best to save this beautiful tradition of handwoven mats from Zimbabwe.

Alicia's daughter wanted this Pikachu for her bedroom, and so a corner-to-corner crochet project was put into action.

After a fabulous day learning needle felting at Erika's house, Carol and Marie continued working on their creations resulting in these beautiful ornaments.

Erika has a real flair with her Needle Felted Creations.  She gave a workshop in October.  A fantastic day for everyone.

Jane has knitted the cutest little Alien.  Stuffed with red beans to give him just the perfect weight.

Gisela has woven some finespun wool into a beautiful Waffle Weave Scarf

Marian spun this beautiful 3-ply skein using the Chain Ply method, 1 rolag at a time - also known as Navajo Plying

Some pin loom weaving by Erika, crocheted together, and then lined to create artful handbags.  One in cotton and the other in wool.

There's no need to let all those beautiful silk ties become dust collectors.  They can very creatively be stripped down and recrafted into a stunning necklace.  Balls filled with fibre, then you could use silver wire or separators from the bead store, as Erika has done with this one.

Woven on an 8-shaft loom.  A single threading and 3 different patterns were created just by using different treadling.

The structure is Summer and Winter.  Woven in Cotton by Pam.

Gisela fell in love with this scarf in the Handwoven Magazine and to get it just perfect, had to import Tencel yarn.  This Crackle design sparkles in the sun, and whoever gets to wear this will definitely feel like royalty.

Jane wove meters of cotton fabric to create a beautiful table cloth. The pattern is M's and O's on a 6 shaft loom.  Sections were then sewn together by hand to get the exact size needed for a beautifully dressed table.

Lizzie has has such fun knitting up a Mondrian-inspired wrap for her grandson.  This was knitted all in one, so changing colours as she went along, all on one long circular needle.

Ingrid is keen for us to use more silk in our projects, and brought in two magnificent pieces she has woven using silk.

Marian wore her freshly knitted Hexagon jersey - pattern by Nicola Susen.

A really beautiful creation.

Jane has been having fun with cotton.  The pretty mug rug is woven in pink and green Ashford cotton using a Carol Strickler pattern (683) called the nine-patch which is a block double weave.

And the pattern for these wonderful tea-towels are a False Damask check draft found on page 60 of the Strickler pattern book.

Pam dyed some bamboo-cotton mix yarn using reactive dyes from Chemosol, and wove some twill towels.  Pattern adapted from a project by Tracy Kaestner in  Handwoven Magazine September/October 2017.

Erika wove up a stack of squares on her PinLoom and then created this clever top with felted circles for decor.

A joint project with Gisela and her daughter.  Her daughter painted the warp before it was wound onto the loom, and then Gisela wove this beautiful table runner.  The sides are created by adding extra warp threads of fishing line a few cm away from the rest of the project.

Lizzie took some beautiful handmade Christmas cards she had received and incorporated them into a jersey she knitted.

A beautiful shawl knitted by Ingrid, a fabulous stash buster.
