Career Summary
Mr. Joburg Mahuyu is currently a Full Time Research Fellow at Midlands State University, Gender Institute. He holds a Master of Science Degree in Development Studies, Bachelor of Technology Education Degree with specialisation in business studies, diploma in education and several certificates. He is a final year Doctoral candidate pursuing Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in Development Studies with the University of South Africa (UNISA). He is an experienced Researcher and Consultant in Social Sciences and Humanities as well as Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Specialist. He has published several TVET, gender, education, environment and developmental articles in reputable journals, authored a textbook and some book chapters. He has worked as researcher and consultant (Co- Principal Investigator) to the following organisations with which he has helped to produce technical reports and policy briefs: International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada, SADC (Zimbabwe), UN (Zimbabwe), COMESA, University of Zimbabwe, ZACC and many other. He has been engaged as Enumerator by World Vision, GOAL Zimbabwe, Central Statistics Office, Care International many other non-governmental organisations. He is a competent trainer, module developer at Management Training Bureau (MTB), Msasa, in Zimbabwe. He worked in the education sector as both secondary teacher and Secondary Head for various learning and TVET institutions in Hurungwe District, Mashonaland West Province in Zimbabwe.

University working experience
1) 23 May 2024 to present: Full-Time Research Fellow at Midlands State University, Gender Institute, Gweru, Zimbabwe. Spearheading multidisciplinary research. Engaged in community projects, innovation and industrialisation of goods and services.
2) Once lecturer at Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University, from 01 February 2020 to 30 June 2021, teaching undergraduate students Development Economics, Entrepreneurship, Project Planning, Research Methods, Financial Management for development, Poverty in Africa, livelihoods development and Peace and Conflict and supervising their dissertations.
3) University Council Member – June 2020 to June 2021 – Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University (ZEGU). ZEGU is a Christian University which exists to develop a total person and promote entrepreneurship.

1) 14 years’ experience of working in various projects with humanitarian organisations /Non-Governmental Organisations such as World Vision (water and sanitation in schools), GOAL (drought relief-assisting school children) and CAMFED (promoting girl child education in secondary schools), worked as a Volunteer (during school holidays) for Care International in Nyaminyami Rural District of Kariba, in Mola area, providing food relief services.
2) Mediator in the dispute/conflict between the Tonga and the Shona in Msampakaruma area of Kariba.
3) Helps Chief Dandawa during court hearings to settle disputes and conflicts.

2) Consultant, University of Zimbabwe: Restoring confidence in long-term savings post-hyperinflation: The case for Zimbabwe. As Co-Principal Investigator (2024-2025).

Joburg Mahuyu was part of a team led by Prof. Makochekanwa tasked to develop the Zimbabwe National Export Strategy (NES) 2017-2021 Policy Document by CCH and Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MIC). The NES Policy Document will guide the country’s exports in the five year period.

Mr Joburg Mahuyu under Prof Makochekanwa participated in the development of the Zimbabwe National Anti-Corruption Strategy (NACS). Participated in national stakeholder workshops in the country’s 10 provinces as data capture and analyser (2022-2023).
