As technology grows and evolves, why can't education? Job Con takes the classroom to a new level. With the use of our application and smartphone Virtual Reality (VR), students can imagine what it's like to do a job in the simple confines of the classroom! Job Con takes the student into the convention world where they can go up to different booths and try out the job just like you would test-driving a car.
This is targeted to students in the secondary level. Students who take a Career Class are expected to learn about careers and what they will need for their future.
The base application is a computer-based software. Most schools will have a computer laboratory that Career Classes will use. In the application, students will create a profile that will be stored in a Canadian-based server. Once this is complete, the student will be given access to the show floor in a first person view. The student will use the keyboard to browse the show floor and see what careers and trades are available. As they go up to a booth, they will be given the option of trying out the job and performing one to three simple tasks related to the job. Once they have completed the task, they can add it to their "Grab-Bag." This is where they will place the jobs they like in. Students also do not have to complete the tasks. If the job is not for them, they can simply move on. Once the student has found jobs that they enjoyed, they will be brought back to "the lounge." In the lounge, they can open their "Grab-Bag" and reflect on the jobs they tried out. By giving students the ability to "test" the job out, the student will gain a better understanding of whether or not this is can be a job for them.
It also works using Virtual Reality. If school districts have VR Headsets and Controllers, they can take the experience further by having students perform more intricate and challenging tasks that a job will require.
As this application has yet to be created, we would have to start small and then expand when we get potential employers on board. The careers that we could start with are:
Fast Food Employee (Beginner Tutorial)
Chef (Trade)
Car Mechanic (Trade)
Teacher (Career)
Nurse (Career)
Police Officer (Career)
As we grow with this product, we can add more occupations to the list.
