Reflection

Working on this assignment was not easy. The first challenge was creating something out of nothing. As I perused a few of the A3’s already in existence, the problem’s that they had got me thinking about my Careers Classes. A lot of students have problems finding the answer to “What do I want to be when I grow up?” And that is when it hit me. Why not try and see if there is anything out there in the current education market.

As I was conducting my research and trying to expand on my idea. I originally thought of making it Augmented Reality based. I thought that creating a smartphone application would be the way to go until I pitched it to a few friends. They challenged me by asking if all students have smartphones? I said no. Another question of what do the students use in your Career Classes came up. I said, they have computers. I have also considered the Virtual Reality path but that became an optional feature. I asked myself, what would be a good way to present this? I love going conventions such as BCMEA, FanExpo, and Emerald City Comic Con and that also sparked my idea. Going to conventions and tradeshows allows delegates to see what is new and upcoming in the market.

As I was putting this idea together, it was interesting to see what was actually out there. A lot of companies use Virtual and Augmented Reality to train their employees. The game Job Simulator was available but for entertainment purposes. It would be interesting to see this venture get off the ground to be used in the education market.

Another challenge was learning how to get a software company started. Learning about Angel Investors really intrigued me about how risky any investment is. When I learned more about starting the software company and who I would hire, it made me think if my idea was worth pursuing but I think the limitations were only set by my imagination. However, this part took a while to understand in order to support my venture.

If I were to reflect on the weakness of this program it would have to be how many jobs can this application support? There are so many jobs on the market and ones that haven’t been created. This could be a great idea, but it would be hard to keep up with. Another weakness is a price point. What would this software be worth? Companies who use VR and AR spend lots of money on this technology and from what I know of in the education system, that money is simply not there or has not even been considered.

Overall, putting this venture together was a challenging yet interesting experience. I look forward to reading everyone’s comments and reflecting on those as well.

Reflection after Feedback and Review's:

April 7, 2024

After reading through other A3's and looking at my feedback and review's, there is more to this venture. For example, as I am relating this to career education, what about adding a component about interviews, or observations? I thought this was a wonderful idea to add to this venture to make it more of a complete package.

Another area was the investment. What would this cost? Who would be buying this? What does the market have in terms of analysis? These questions made me realize that I am missing things that could strengthen the eyes of an investor. I understand that creating a pitch has a lot of parts to it. In the process, there were things that I missed and I am glad my colleague saw those.

If I were to actually make this a reality, I think I have a some additions that would enhance the product and things that would grab the eyes of investors.
