Overview of Activities of the Vivekananda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar in 2010
National Youth Day 12 Jan 2010 celebrations: The celebrations were shared with the Vivekananda Youth Association, Chamanpally village. The Association in this village has been celebrating the National Youth Day eventfully for the past two decades nearly. The celebrations were result of the initiatives by the Association President Sri. Lakshmaiah. Revered Swami Shitikantananda Maharaj, Ramakrishna Math, Hyderabad graced the occasion. A well-painted, spruced up, impressive bust statue of Swami Vivekananda was garlanded by the Swamiji and the other dignitaries. Paying homage to the great personality of modern India, Swamiji narrated the story of the sheep and the tiger and exhorted the people to realize their own potential and to raise to the occasion to channelize the same successfully in the light of the ideals set by Swami Vivekananda to the youth and the nation. Swamiji said youth should not let themselves be misled by the politicians but rather follow the footsteps of Swami Vivekananda for a progressive Indian society. Swamiji distributed the prizes to the winners of various sports and cultural competitions held by the Vivekananda Youth Association, Chamanpally village. VSS, Karimnagar distributed a few books entitled "Vivekananda - His Call to the Nation" to the youth of the Chamanpally village and donated a meagre sum of Rs.300/- to the Vivekananda Youth Association, Chamanpally Village as its mite to the developmental activities therein . On behalf of the Vivekananda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar, 5 student volunteers, a Professor and a Lecturer from JNTUH College of Engineering, Kondagattu, Karimnagar participated. The Samiti motivated a local engineering college management (Nigama Engg. College) to let their students and faculty get benefited by attending the lecture by the Revered Swamiji from R.K. Math. The college sent a minibus with about 35-40 students and teachers. They eagerly waited for the address made by the Revered Swamiji. They also purchased a lot of books in the book stall consisting of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda-Vedanta literature of R.K. Math. The bookstall was arranged on the spot (for the benefit of the participants) on behalf of the permanent book stall in Sri Raja Rajeswara temple, Vemulawada. The Samiti sponsored 100 books entitled "Swami Vivekananda - His Call to the Nation" to the students of the Nigama Engineering College. The book contains, in a nut shell, the famous quotations from the message of Swami Vivekananda.
Bhagwan Sri Ramakrishna birth anniversary celebrations 18 Feb 2010: The Samiti and the Vivekananda Youth Association, Chamanpally village, Karimnagar jointly undertook 3 service-oriented programmes by distributing fruits, sweets and biscuits in the following establishments on the occasion: a.) On 18 March 2010, Vivekananda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar arranged for the lectures of Revered Swami Shitikantananda Maharaj and Revered Swami Raghunayakananda Maharaj in two local engineering colleges (Vaageswari Engineering College, Karimnagar and Sree Chaitanya Engineering College, Karimnagar) when the Swamijis were enroute JNTUHCE, Kondagattu, Nachupally, Karimnagar for the valedictory function held on the eve of the 2-month long Youth Celebrations there. Swamijis donated Rs.6,000/- to the Vivekananda Seva Samiti which was devoid of funds. Revered Swamijis inaugurated the new year activity for the Samiti in the new Samiti office which is housed in the accommodation given by Sri.A.Dharma Rao, SRSP Chief Engineer (Rtd.) and President of the Samiti. The inaugural function was attended among others by the Commanding Officer of the local NCC (Army) Unit and the Associate NCC Officer, Sri Rajarajeswara Degree College, Karimnagar. The Samiti prepared a Quiz, and got conducted the same alongwith various compettiions in Sree Chaitanya Engg. College, Karimnagar. The prizes were sponsored by the Samiti. The competitions were held on the eve of the visits of the two revered Swamijis to the college for the Personality Development-cum-Soft Skills Lectures in that college by the revered Swamijis to spread the message of Swami Vivekananda for the benefit of the young students of the college.
The Samiti provided Rs.500/- scholarship to a girl student of 1/4 B.Tech.(EEE) who is a single parent child and who won 7 prizes in the Youth Celebrations held in JNTUHCE, Kondagattu, Nachupally, Karimnagar. The Samiti is committed to support her with a scholarship of Rs.500/- before first mid-term exams and Rs.500/- before second mid-term exams in each semester. The Samiti sponsored two "Software Engineering by Pressman Tata MC Graw Hill Intnl. Edition" books to two indigent students of 2/4 B.Tech. (IT) students. In the context of the programme held in the Samiti on 18 March 2010, bookstalls were arranged for the benefit of the students with books worth more than Rs.10,000/-. The bookstalls consisted of the books available in the R.K.Math, Hyderabad. The books disseminate the invaluable message of Swami Vivekananda to the youth, a lot of subsidized student packs meant to develop soft skills, self skills, and personality development among the youth. The Samiti offered to various local colleges to open spot-sale stalls in the campus to let the literature containing the inspiring message of Swami Vivekananda available to the campus students and group of institutions under the management. The oppurtunity was grabbed by Vaageswari Engineering College as it obtained the books from the Samiti office and a spot sales facility was arranged in the college campus in LMD Colony, Karimnagar. The facility of bringing the invaluable literature to the doorstep of the students was through the Samiti with the blessings of the revered Swamijis from the R.K. Math.
The Samiti joined hands with the Shiksha Bachao Society and other allied representatives in representing to the Joint Collector, Karimnagar for legal action against the lady author (Vendy Donigar) of and for the ban on the book, "The Hindus - An Alternative History" (Penguin Publishers) who wrongly portrayed and vilified the characters of Lord Krishna, Swami Vivekananda and Mahatma Gandhi. The author carried malicious motives against the Indian society and the Hindutva that drove her for such an ill authorship to vilifiy the glorious and great personalities of India and Hindutva.
A 10-day English Skills Training Programme (in Summer) 21-30 Jun 2010 was held during 21-30 Jul 2010. 20 participants utilized the programme. To serve the truely needy people, it aimed at benefiting the students whose families belonged to the poor and middle-class sections of the society. A Personality Development programme was held on 27 Jun 2010 (10.00 A.M. - 2.00 P.M.). This also targeted the students/people who belonged to the families from the poor and the middle-class sections of the society. 10 people participated in this programme. An essay-writing competition was held on 11 July 2010 on the occasion of the forthcoming Gurupoornima. The details are mentioned in the photogallery feature page. On 15 July 2010 evening, addressing the students (in the O/o Vivekananda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar) (students from Satavahana University College, Alphores Women's Degree College, Govt. Women's Degree and P.G. College, Jyotishmati Institute of Technology and Science and a B.Ed. College) who won the Prizes in the Essay-Writing Competition held by Vivekananda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar on the eve of the Guru Poornima in July 2010, Swami Kutasthananda Maharaj explained the significance of the inspiring message and work of Swami Vivekananda for the cause of the youth and the nation. He gave away the prizes to the winners.The essay writing competition was held in both Telugu and English media whereas the topics were (1.) "The Teacher-Student Relationship between SriRamakrishna and Swami Vivekananda is divine." (2.) "How the Modern Youth can Confront their Problems." A 2-day lecture series is proposed (on 15-16 July, 2010) in the premier educational institutions in the Karimnagar city. Lectures will be given by Swami Kutasthananda Maharaj, Belur Math, Howrah in Govt. Jr. College (Science), SRM Degree and PG College, JNTUHCE Kondagattu, Karimnagar and Viveknanda Seva Samiti, Karimnagar.
