The objective for each lesson comes from understanding and unpacking the standards effectively. The components to be included in the lessons will follow previously introduced concept that will support student understanding. Clearly defined learning objectives are written from the process of backward design. Collaborative planning is the most effective as various teachers share their expertise, knowledge and understanding of the content.
Standards And Objectives
Student Tier Levels And Strategies
Relying on specific standards and objectives, learners are pre-tested to identify content mastery level and the need to scaffold understanding during the lesson. Tier levels are created to better serve the needs of the students during guided instruction.
The questions identified for the lessons will draw from the Bloom's level of questioning and level of understanding. Questions are used during the mini-lesson, guided practice and closure of the lesson. They are also incorporated into independent and collaboration stations.
Questions by Bloom's Levels
Gradual Release Model
The lessons provide students a gradual release of responsibilities which incorporate the five steps of effective learning. Lesson delivery begins with a hook and mini-lesson where the teacher demonstrates the skill expected to be mastered by the students. Station work provides the students with technology, independent and collaboration work while the teacher works directly with small groups who need the support.
Each lesson will close with the beginning in mind, reviewing the Lesson's Objective and checking for student understanding of the work.
Driven By Questions And Reflective Thinking
Lesson Assessment
Measuring student understanding is essential for the teacher and the student to move forward. The level of understanding that the students have will provide data to make an informed decision. Who needs additional assistance? Which learning pathways are created? Did I deliver an effective lesson? Were my questions adequate? Is re-teaching required?
