Teaching is a journey that formally began 23 years ago and continues to evolve with time. From elementary grades to higher education and professional development, I've lead teachers and students to think through active inquiry and problem solving.
I am currently a Campus Instructional Coach and Personalized Learning Campus Coordinator in a Dallas ISD personalized learning elementary school. My role as a campus personalized learning coordinator (PL Quarterback) has given me the opportunity to train the staff on campus initiatives that align to the Personalized Learning Readiness Continuum and PL Rubrics. These include the use of data to drive instruction, use of classroom data trackers, student learning profiles, student portfolios, goal setting meetings with students, blended learning (station rotation, flex learning, distance learning), flip lessons, novel engineering and student voice. I have also engaged in the development and growth of student agency through the use of choice boards, playlists, student workshops and study halls. I have had the opportunity to support the gradual implementation of flexible seating and student choice while providing teachers adequate furniture and managing the use of their available space. I have become passionate about personalized learning as a model to support best practices to reach all learners.
Previously a Site Coordinator and Instructor at Texas Tech University, I hold an administrative and teaching certification from the state of Texas. My role as a Site Coordinator allowed me the opportunity to shape the minds of future teachers in the elementary and middle school classroom. I became the only Site Coordinator who developed, managed and taught the Personalized Learning curriculum with the undergraduate program while working with Teacher Candidates in the TechTeach Across Texas Program from Texas Tech University. My role with TTU gave me the opportunity to teach four courses to my students and to meet with them weekly for one year where I delivered data driven lessons from the information gathered weekly. In addition, I supported the students in preparation for their performance assessment teaching experience. The support involved a pre-conference prior to the lesson to analyze the lesson design and discuss the plan of implementation with my students. I then visited with the Teacher Candidates in the classroom to observe the delivery of the lesson while recording and evaluating the lesson. A post conference followed the observation where the Teacher Candidate met with me to discuss the outcome of the lesson and impact on student achievement through analysis of data.
Prior to my role with Texas Tech University, I had the opportunity to work for three school districts as an elementary teacher and later an Instructional Coach and Instructional Technology Specialist. These roles gave me the opportunity to conduct professional development for the staff, support through coaching and classroom observations while integrating technology in the classroom.
