Hi, my name is Rachel VanPelt. I have been teaching Family & Consumer Sciences (FACS) classes and advising FCCLA at JMHS since 2007. I've also been the JMHS CTE department chair since 2019. FACS is my favorite subject area because of the real world skills we learn and practice in FACS classes.
I enjoyed the FACS courses I took in high school. I was very active in FCCLA, which is why I wanted to become a FACS teacher. I earned my undergrad degree (Family & Consumer Sciences Education) and my Masters (Career & Technical Education) from Virginia Tech - Go Hokies!
In my free time I enjoy cooking, VT football games, and traveling. My favorite part about traveling is experiencing new cultures through the local cuisines. Some of the most unique foods I've tried include guinea pig and alpaca in Peru, whale & fermented shark in Iceland, and tripe (cow stomach) in Italy.
Let's go travel and explore the world!
I've been leading international educational tours with Madison students and teachers since 2014. I’m a believer in hands-on learning and all the incredible growth that comes with seeing the world and exploring someplace new.
I invite you to join us on one of our future educational international tours - click here to learn about upcoming international student tours or email WarhawkWanderlust@gmail.com.
These tours are not FCPS sponsored field trips. All high school students in good standing are eligible to travel with our group of Madison students and staff.
