Research fields
Proteomics research - Proteomics is a comprehensive discipline that studies protein interactions and properties. In this laboratory, we study proteomics from the perspective of analytical chemistry. We aim to develop new analysis methods by improving standardized techniques.
Efficient measurement of peptides - Directly analyzing proteins with mass spectrometry has limitations such as data analysis, decreased sensitivity, and sample loss. Therefore, proteins are usually analyzed by mass spectrometry after being hydrolyzed into peptides by enzymes. In this laboratory, we strive to improve sensitivity using the tagging method.
Research on phosphorylation - Phosphorylation is known to greatly contribute to the activity of enzymes and the neural transmission function within cells. This laboratory performs research to efficiently concentrate phosphorylation and increase sensitivity.
Efficient biochemical material analysis using MALDI - Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) is an ionization method commonly used in proteomics along with electrospray ionization (ESI). In this laboratory, we analyze biochemical materials such as proteins, peptides, nucleic acids, and lipids using MALDI. We make efforts to conduct more efficient analysis.
Exosome concentration research - Exosomes are known as signaling molecules between cells, and their small size requires concentration before analysis. This laboratory is currently researching the efficient concentration of exosomes, which has received recent attention.
Protein acid hydrolysis research - Heating proteins to 100°C under acidic conditions breaks down the C-terminus of aspartic acid into peptides specifically. Acid hydrolysis of proteins is more cost-effective and has better specificity than using enzymes for decomposition. This laboratory is conducting research on optimizing and applying acid hydrolysis conditions.
Analysis of synthetic polymers using MALDI mass spectrometry - Synthetic polymers are widely used in everyday life. The molecular weight of synthetic polymers is commonly measured using methods such as gel permeation chromatography (GPC), but there are limitations to accurately measuring molecular weight. This laboratory is conducting research on effective analysis of synthetic polymers using MALDI mass spectrometry.
