I became a member of the AVID Site Team at Smithfield-Selma High School in 2014 and began teaching the elective in the 2015-2016 school year. Not only did AVID strengthen my teaching, it also enhanced the types of interactions I had with students. AVID students engaged in leadership conferences, college fairs, student leadership, field trips, and so much more. I was fortunate to go on many college visits with these students and see the hope on their faces as they imagined their futures on a college campus.
