For the past several years we’ve seen the tropes, vernacular and iconography of the “zombie apocalypse” worm their way into the mainstream. What had always been a niche of a niche until now, typified by writer/director George A. Romero’s trailblazing 1969 shocker Night of the Living Dead, has given way in the past decade to such genre-busting efforts as 2004’s parody Shaun of the Dead, and AMC TV drama The Walking Dead, which enjoys the kind of ratings usually reserved for doctor and lawyer shows on the broadcast nets. Less common, however, are full-length books about zombies. Outside of Max Brooks' World War Z, I actually haven't read any books about the blood thirsty undead. I'm pleased to say, Jim Roe's new release "The Scourge" did not disappoint. Full of fast-paced action scenes and heart-felt dialogue, the book commences shortly after the main character's — Scott Westfall's — father, a renowned scientist, suffers a fatal heart attack. A quintessential millenial, Scott was looking to reap his fortune from his father's work; however, upon injecting himself with an experimental serum with military applications, designed in his father's lab, Scott unleashes the fury of the (aptly named) scourge. The story takes the reader on a cross-country journey against time, to an island on the gulf coast of Texas, where two brilliant scientists hold the last hope for humanity. I won't give the ending away, but suffice to say — an excellent read by a talented new author! I will gladly recommend this to my "booky" friends! Thanks to Prism Publishers for the Advance Reading Copy in exchange for honest review.

It was amazing
I've always been an avid reader of fiction, but never had any interest in the science-fiction type of novel. This book had me completely encapsulated after the first chapter. And it can't be boxed in to your typical "science-fiction" genre! There's action, adventure, love and okay... a little bit of science. But you absolutely come to love it because the storyline is just too good. I would highly recommend reading The Scourge - regardless of the type of fiction you normally read.

The Scourge - written by Jim Roe - is an exciting and intriguing novel. Roe expertly weaves in various elements including science-fiction, mystery, zombies, mystery, horror, as well as love/romance.
I most enjoyed how Roe kept the story moving quickly. At times I could not turn the pages fast enough!
I would highly recommend this book. Great job Jim Roe.

A selfish, short-sighted decision by one man leads to horrific consequences for humanity. Each chapter reveals new twists and turns as the suspense ramps upwards... An exciting and satisfying read!

Hey Everbody: Be sure to read this exciting book, its a page turner. When I first saw the cover I thought "Uck" and didn't think at my old age would read a book like this. However, when I finished, I decided it proved that "You should never judge a book by its cover". I loved it. I am a" Love Story" fan and even found lots of love in this book too.
His book "The Creature" is every bit as exciting and again "never judge a book by its cover." Jim is family, and friend, and I am so proud of him, also he is the only famous Author in our family. Good Luck Jim and hope you write many more as exciting.

A great mixture of mystery, romance, and computer science. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what new twists were coming up. I couldn't put the book down once I started it. I thoroughly enjoyed the novel from beginning to end.
