Timeless Treasures: Conversations Across the Ages was a project that was student-led in honor of Jim Evers. Our project was based on building connections through inter-generational interviews. We collected community volunteers, both students and lifelong learners and to facilitate interviews, participants brought sentimental objects to help to tell their story. We then looked for themes between the two generations to create the compilation video.

The Golden Connections Club hosted monthly roundtable discussions where teens and older adults came together to share a meal and talk about a big question based on a specific theme. Each meeting, students served a different cultural meal to honor the heritage of the seniors in the community. Students started with fun icebreakers, then moved into meaningful conversations where the elders shared stories and advice, and students got to learn from their experiences. At the end of each meeting, the seniors would write down advice for the younger generation on sticky notes and post them to the Golden Advice wall. It’s wasn't just a one-sided experience— the older adults learned from the students too, and all walked away with new perspectives. Students have been collecting quotes, advice, and photos throughout the project to include in an end-of-year anthology.
