To honor Jim’s memory as an educator, The Rockland County Village Community (RCVC) — together with the MIT AgeLab, and The Clarkstown Coalition for Youth, Inc. (a 501.c3) — are offering grants for high school students.
A $500 grant will be awarded to a group of students for an Intergenerational Project. Specifically, awards will be given to projects that showcase high school teens collaborating with adults over the age of 65.
Seed money will be awarded to the student team/school with an idea that most closely aligns with the life work and ideology of Jim Evers (see bio). Applicants are encouraged to think of project concepts in a broad range of content (ex, legacy story collecting, arts programing, technology, social issues, field trips, cooking, etc). The ultimate goal is to develop a creative, meaningful and sustainable intergenerational project in your community.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR COMPLETING THE GRANT APPLICATION FORM:
Each student team will submit ONE application. All group members' names will appear within the application. You must also provide the contact info for your faculty mentor.
Provide a cover letter explaining your project concept and the estimated number of participants that will be involved (both teens and older adults).
In addition to the written application, team members are required to submit a video overview of the project concept. This portion of the application provides an opportunity to showcase your teams’ group dynamic and creativity. In short, this is your moment to shine!
Videos should be no longer than 5-7 minutes. Approach them as an elevator pitch.
Videos can be taken on a cell phone and shared as a file attachment along with the application document. All members of the team must participate in the video. Video submissions should be either an mp4 file or a YouTube link.
Completed applications and video submissions will be submitted to: JimEvers.MemorialScholarship@gmail.com
