THE JIM EVERS MEMORIAL GRANT
FOR INTERGENERATIONAL PROJECTS
FAQ
How do we connect with older adults (65+) in the local community to work with?
We strongly recommend that you begin outreach as early as possibly. Consider calling local libraries, local town government, local department of aging, community centers, senior centers, assisted living communities and 55+ living communities.
Inquire if there is an Activities Coordinator or Seniors Director that you can meet with to explain the project.
Inquire if they can help you promote/support the project with their community.
Flyers are a great way of spreading information. Find out if there is a community board where you can post a flyer.
Will there be support and guidance during the project?
The winning team(s) will attend at least one virtual consultation session with researchers from the MIT AgeLab, to receive input and support as the project idea is being implemented.
The Grant Committee will hold zoom meetings every 4-6 weeks to provide support where needed. If groups need additional support, meetings can be scheduled upon request.
All grantees will be provided a list of contact info for fellow and former grantees. We encourage you to seek support from each other.
Will we be able to meet and collaborate with other winning teams?
A meet and greet virtual meeting will be held for all winning teams shortly after grants have been awarded. This will be a time to connect with your peers, share ideas, ask questions and provide support. It is our hope that grant recipient teams will build on this initial connection and stay in touch through the year as a means of support. A contact list for all participants will be provided.
A final virtual meeting will be scheduled at the end of the year. This meeting will be used for each team to present their project highlights to each other and the JEM Grant Committee.
How do we keep the committee informed of our progress?
The winning team(s) must create an Instagram account as a means of sharing updates on their project. Please follow fellow grantee’s accounts. Additionally, when posting, please tag @jimeversintergenerationalgrant as a means of keeping us informed and sharing your successes.
Are there specific acknowledgements that are required?
Yes. Any printed materials should acknowledge that the grant was established by the organization that Jim Evers founded, Rockland County Village Community.
Is there a deadline for spending the funds?
Grant money must be used by the team to implement their project concept by the end of the 2026 calendar year. If there are unused funds by the close of the project, teams will be asked to submit information on how they intend to use the funds in a way that is related to their project.
How do we access funds?
Grant funds will be sent to your project mentor in the form of a Visa/Amex gift card.
Your mentor will provide you with this card when you need to make purchases for the project.
How do we report back on our spending?
Please keep notes or receipts as funds are used. At the conclusion of your project a list of expenditures will be submitted to the committee.
