A scientific jack-of-all trades
I am a plant ecologist/botanist and environmental scientist applying concepts and methods in particular to agricultural ecosystems. In my research I take an ecological perspective on crop plant communities, ecology of biological invasions, crop protection (pesticides risk assessment) and the agrobiology of these ecosystems.
Currently, I work at the National Institute for Agricultural and Food Research (INIA) in Madrid (Spain) as scientific expert on risk assessment of pesticides and plant protection products.
I´m specialist in agrobiology, chemical molecules and their mode of action, biological efficacy, resistance risk, negative effects on crop yield, impacts on succeeding and adjacent crops and phytotoxicity to host crops. Furthermore, I´m involve in the assessment of non-chemical alternatives (biological molecules) to improve the agricultural production such as: microbial pest control agents (MPCA), microorganisms, semio-chemicals and plants extracts.
I have experience in microbiology and molecular biology techniques applied to detect fungal pathogens. I use bioinformatic tools such as: statistical programs (R, Statistica, SPSS and Statgraphics), Geographic Information Systems (ArcGIS 10, gvSIG, QGIS, GRASS) and modelling programs (MAXENT).
Finally, I am also a dron pilot certified by the National Agency of Air Safety.
