Skyline College's Promise Scholars Program
Skyline College's Promise Scholars Program provides incoming first-time students financial, academic and counseling support for up to three full years (basically their entire time at Skyline College!). Eligible students must commit to being full-time (12 units minimum per semester, with 15 units highly encouraged) each semester and must have a completed financial aid application at Skyline College.
A study by the Institute for College Access & Success found that approximately 71 percent of all students leaving a four-year college graduate with student loan debt – a number that has steadily climbed in recent years. While data about individual minority groups is lacking, reports have shown that these students often graduate with even more than the national average of $29,400. Fortunately, tons of scholarships and grants catering specifically to students of color exist, making it easier for them to avoid crippling debt. This guide shares scholarships for individual minority groups and helps students better understand current funding options.

Crestmoor Neighborhood Memorial Scholarship
The Scholarship Program is a living tribute to the Crestmoor neighborhood through an investment in San Bruno’s next generation of leaders. As the neighborhood is reconstructed and the survivors rebuild their lives, the Scholarship Program ensures that the tragedy of September 9, 2010, is not forgotten and that the resiliency, teamwork, leadership, and commitment to community displayed throughout San Bruno in the aftermath of the explosion and fire are honored in the annual recipients of the Scholarship.
Graduating high school seniors who will enroll at community colleges like Skyline or College of San Mateo can receive $5,000 ($2,500 per year for up to two years).
For more information regarding eligibility and application requirements, visit the San Bruno Community Foundation website or contact Patricia Flores, Skyline College Scholarship Coordinator at floresp@smccd.edu.
