John Glenn Pompon is committed to creating a positive, supportive, and hardworking team culture. Team members are expected to balance academics, practices, performances, and school responsibilities while representing John Glenn High School with pride.

2:30–3:30 p.m. — Study Hour
Athletes will complete homework, study, meet with teachers, or work on missing assignments.
3:30–5:30 p.m. — Pompon Practice
Athletes will work on technique, conditioning, routines, formations, and performance preparation.
Additional Practices
Additional Practices
If an additional practice is needed, it will normally be held on Thursday from 2:30–5:30 p.m.
Extra practices may be added before performances or special events. Families will receive as much notice as possible.
Please note: The practice schedule is subject to change as performances, school events, facility conflicts, and other opportunities are added throughout the year.

Consistent attendance is essential because every athlete has an assigned position in routines and formations. When one athlete is absent, the entire team’s ability to practice safely and effectively is affected.

Athletes must arrive on time and remain for the entire scheduled practice.
Practices, performances, team meetings, and required events are considered team commitments.
Planned absences should be communicated to Coach Justice as early as possible.
Illnesses and emergencies should be reported before practice whenever possible.
Athletes are responsible for learning missed material before the next practice.
Repeated unexcused absences or tardiness may affect an athlete’s performance eligibility or team membership.
School-sponsored academic obligations and verified emergencies will be handled individually.
Athletes should not attend practice when they are ill, injured, or medically unable to participate. Health and safety always come first.

Academic success is a central goal of the John Glenn Pompon program. The scheduled study hour gives athletes dedicated time to complete schoolwork and seek academic support.

Maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA.
Pass all current classes and meet school and district eligibility requirements.
Use study hour productively.
Bring homework, assignments, reading materials, or another approved academic task.
Communicate with teachers and Coach Justice when academic support is needed.
Follow any additional academic eligibility requirements established by John Glenn High School, Wayne-Westland Community Schools, or the MHSAA.
Academic concerns will be addressed privately and supportively. School and district eligibility rules will take precedence if they differ from the team’s expectations.

Bring required poms, shoes, clothing, and a labeled water bottle.
Participate fully unless medically restricted.
Listen to instructions and respond respectfully to coaching.

Parent and guardian support is an important part of a successful team. Families are asked to help athletes meet their commitments while communicating respectfully with the coaching staff.

Review the team contract, calendar, payment schedule, and announcements.
Help athletes arrive on time with the required materials.
Notify Coach Justice promptly about absences, injuries, medical restrictions, or transportation concerns.
Maintain respectful communication with athletes, coaches, judges, officials, other families, and opposing teams.
Allow the coach to address routine instruction, positions, formations, and performance decisions.
Participate in meetings, fundraising, and volunteer opportunities when possible.
Contact Coach Justice privately with questions or concerns rather than discussing individual athletes in group messages or on social media.
Questions involving an individual athlete should be discussed privately. Medical, academic, disciplinary, and financial information will not be discussed in a team group chat.

The current working budget is $375 per athlete. This conservative estimate uses the higher anticipated prices so families are less likely to face unexpected additional expenses. Final costs may change based on roster size, vendor pricing, shipping, taxes, and school approval.

Families will select their payment option on the team contract. If a family needs assistance or an alternate arrangement, a parent or guardian should contact Coach Justice privately before the payment deadline. All payments and purchases must follow the school’s approved financial procedures.

If final expenses are lower than estimated, any remaining funds will be handled through the school-approved team account according to district procedures. Families will receive an update after final costs are known.

Athletes are responsible for keeping uniforms, poms, shoes, and accessories clean and in good condition.
Uniform pieces may not be altered without approval.
Athletes must wear the complete designated uniform for each performance.
Team items should not be loaned to other students without permission.
Lost, intentionally damaged, or improperly cared-for items may need to be replaced at the family’s expense.

Team members and families must show respect toward teammates, coaches, judges, officials, school staff, opposing teams, and spectators.
Unsportsmanlike conduct, bullying, hazing, harassment, retaliation, or behavior that damages the team or school community may result in consequences under team, school, or district policies.

Athletes are expected to represent themselves, the team, and John Glenn High School responsibly online.
Students may not post confidential team information, recordings of unreleased routines, harmful comments, bullying content, or inappropriate images while wearing team apparel or identifying themselves as team members.

Every selected athlete and a parent or guardian must review and sign the official John Glenn Pompon Team Contract. The contract contains the complete expectations, payment selection, attendance policies, acknowledgments, and signature pages.
The website provides a general overview. The signed contract and official John Glenn High School and Wayne-Westland Community Schools policies will take precedence.
