Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success

As a returning student with intentions of applying to graduate school, I selected my senior year courses in alignment with the profiles of learning for undergraduate success as detailed by by school, Indiana University Indianapolis. These profiles are communicator, problem solver, innovator, and community contributor. I have also reflected on my earlier years of school to identify my development of the profiles throughout my time in school.

Literature review:

Where are the lesbians in Western art history?

This text by Adrienne Rich is cited in almost every writing about Womanhouse. It served as a guide for artists and work created by the collective.

Doin' It In Public was an art exhibition curated by Meg Linton and Sue Mayberry in 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the L.A. art scene, specifically Womanhouse.

This journal is considered to be the first publication entirely about lesbian creative work.

Off Our Backs is the longest running feminest newsjournal in the U.S. It inspired On Our Backs, the first women-run lesbian erotica magazine for lesbian audiences in the U.S.

Hammond is a pre-Stonewall lesbian artist. In Lesbians in America, she details 18 of the most prominent lesbian artists in the U.S.

Similar to Rich, Judith Butler served as an inspiration and pathway for feminist and queer artists of the 70s.

Profile of Learning: Innovator

I wanted to delve much deeper into this question, so I started constructing a timeline of lesbian publications to compliment this literature review. My goal is to self-publish this research in a zine called Lovergirl: A Midwest Dyke Zine.

My final paper in this course was about my visit to the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center in Bloomington, IN. After learning about tanka paintings, mandalas, stupas, and temples in class, it was so valuable to see these ritual sites in person.

There are many surprises and opportunities to think creatively and problem solve when learning to work with clay. Taking a ceramics class provided exercise in problem solving as I learned different hand building methods, and this practice has proven to have improved my problem solving abilities beyond working with this medium.

After taking ENG-W270, I enrolled in COMM-R110, Speech. I wanted not just to excel in written persuasion, but use the skills I learned in this course to develop my public speaking abilities as well.
