Through Baldwin Wallace University’s University Relations department, I had the opportunity to write an article for Baldwin Wallace’s website. I chose to write on a recent alumnus' success: Hope Sloop’s attendance at the 2025 Golden Globes and Oscars. I selected her story not only because of her notable experiences but also because of her connection to the Baldwin Wallace University collection of communications majors.
I also had the chance to reach out to her personally and hear more about her latest achievements. This included her sharing several panels and interviews lined up for the future for screen projects including “Agatha All Along,” “Severance,” and “Poker Face” among other opportunities.
I am extremely grateful for the chance to connect with Sloop, and I hope that my article reminded readers that it is always possible to achieve childhood dreams!
Upon completion and publication of my article on Hope Sloop’s recent alumni success, I wanted to pitch the article to Sloop’s hometown newspaper, News-Herald, to see if they would be interested in a feature.
Using Muck Rack, I was able to find a contact, Mark Meszoros, who specializes in Art and Entertainment stories and reached out to him. Although I did not hear back from him directly, he forwarded the message to Marah Morrison who, as shown in her response, covers Willowick (Sloop’s hometown) and Eastlake and was interested in the story. After a few email exchanges, Morrison was ready to write the feature!
After a successful media pitch, Marah Morrison of News-Herald decided to publish a detailed story on Hope Sloop’s achievements in the broadcasting and mass communications industry. The author reached out to Sloop for additional information for a longer feature with more quotes to include both her education and career experiences.
Through Baldwin Wallace University’s University Relations department, I had another opportunity to write an article for Baldwin Wallace’s website. I selected another alum of BW, Paul Koomar, who is currently working as the mayor of Bay Village. In 2017, he was sworn in as the city’s 22nd mayor, and is currently working to improve Bay Village’s sustainability practices, erosion protection, transportation options, and clean water practices among many other projects.
I selected his story in order to document the way his Baldwin Wallace University education in business administration and accounting prepared him for his mayoral tasks in the working world. I was also able to talk with Koomar over the phone to hear why BW was a special place to him that set him up for success. I am thrilled I got the opportunity to connect with him and here more about his personal experiences.
Through my connections with both Baldwin Wallace University Relations and WBWC 88l.3 The Sting, I had the incredible opportunity to create a TikTok/Instagram Reel about how to join the radio station on campus. The video shows several clips, all captured by me, of the inside of the studio, me speaking at the disk jockey microphone, a station coverage map, and me doing other normal disk jockey tasks.
Originally, I tried to put this post together using VN, a recommended video editing application. I had my post completely finished, but when I went to share it, the file became corrupted and was unable to be used. Although a setback, I sought out other platforms to host my project, and I settled on Microsoft Clipchamp. This, like VN, allowed me to time out video slots and the entire project to the desired lengths, add in my voiceover file taken from the voice recorder application on my phone, and adjust the audio so the levels would match throughout. I then could easily download the finished project directly.
