In this course I had the opportunity to dive deeper into my drawing capability and advance my technique and skill. This class taught me to focus more on fine details and work with more contrast than ever before; truthfully, I would say that I have begun the journey to mastering the ability to draw and to capture realistic values.

In this I worked very hard to capture the folds of the fabric and subtle highlights and light reflections on the mannequin arm and neck as well as on the bottle in the back. Graphite drawing. 18x24

The Oil Pastel City Scape

Oil Pastels are very creamy and easy to layer and blend. I had a lot of fun drawing the cars. Oil Pastels. 9x12

The Second Still Life
The Second Still Life
In this still life I focused less on details and more on energy and the mood of the piece. When working with charcoals it is very difficult to get refined details. Charcoal. 18x24

The Tension Project
The Tension Project
This assignment was meant to show visual tension, in my piece I created this by the ropes pulling on the elephants skin. I went a step further and involved some emotionally moving psychological tension. It is very dramatic. Working with inks proved to not be as difficult as I originally thought; however they're very intimidating because once you put ink on the page it isn't going anywhere. Black and white ink. 18x24

The Golden Ratio Project
This project is rather interesting and I went about it differently than others in the class. Instead of drawing tons of things following the golden ration I created a scene instead. A scene that creates movement and emotions as the boat is being lifted out of the water by a giant octopus. 18x24

Mandala Project
Mandala Project
I really enjoyed coloring the gradient and making the colors blend beautifully and then ultimately ruining it by putting the black paint over it. I had the idea to do the parrot because I knew I wanted to do an animal and I wanted it to be an animal that is known for being colorful. The pose of the parrot was inspired by a photo I took last summer while at the beach with my friends when we went to a zoo. The process of scratching away the paint is really satisfying and you can lose control very fast when you get sucked in to making multiple lines. Mixed Media. 8x10
