The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Below is an artifact that shows an assessment I created using Google Forms. I created a test from a chapter in Woolfolk's book on Educational Psychology. There are 8 multiple-choice questions and 2 essay questions, all covering the higher levels of Bloom’s cognitive taxonomy. This test helps me to see the student's understanding of the concept, which corresponds to the performance indicator 7K, "The competent teacher appropriately uses a variety of formal and informal assessments to evaluate the understanding, progress, and performance of an individual student and the class as a whole".
Using technology as an assessment allows teachers to collect data in a clear and concise manner for future usage. It also allows teachers to be effective and flexible as the standard calls for "effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student." Google Forms is a great way to create assessments because they can be edited very quickly and accommodated for all students by the availability to add additional supports like photos or visual representations. Google Forms also allows teachers to effectively monitor students students' progress and growth easily by utilizing their analysis tools at the end of each assessment.
