Rather than go through your days without purpose or meaning, answer these questions first:
What do you want from your life?
What ideas and skills do you possess that might help you get what you want?
That’s it. Decide what’s most important to you and then use what you possess to achieve it. Don't believe that's all there is to it? Then try on these additional ideas to refine your approach. I call these Fisher’s Filosophy (sorry), and I share them because I learned them while along my own path.
Do what you want to do and love to do in your own way.
Achieve success in your own way and on your own terms.
Don’t equate your vision of success with another’s view of success. What’s good for someone else may not be right for you. Only you can define your own success terms, and then work toward meeting them.
And never live your life in a way that you think/feel others think/feel you should live it, either.
These are the fundamental rules that can govern your life. And these are not easy decisions to make either. I’ve struggled with finding the right answers for years, and continue to struggle in ways that push me forward toward ideas and goals that I want to achieve.
There are sacrifices at every stage and plenty of distractions to interfere with your progress. It’s easy to be discouraged by all the barriers that seem to conspire to impede your journey. And it’s easy to complain about your lack of growth (and even easier to give up and take a different route). But staying steadfast along the path is a crucial skill that you must cultivate, develop, and employ.
