Standard 7 - Assessment – The competent teacher understands and uses appropriate formative and summative assessments for determining student needs, monitoring student progress, measuring student growth, and evaluating student outcomes. The teacher makes decisions driven by data about curricular and instructional effectiveness and adjusts practices to meet the needs of each student.
Rational:
This exam is based on the material found in Chapter 7 of the textbook, Educational Psychology by Anita Woolfolk. I had 10 students take this quiz, and with the results collected, I created the test analysis. The 8 multiple choice and 2 essay questions were based on Bloom's Taxonomy. Creating this quiz and going through the steps of the analysis has helped me determine student needs and evaluate student outcomes. I made this exam for my Educational Psychology class at Trinity Christian College 2020.
Connection to ITPS Standard:
There are a lot of processes that go into assessing a student's growth and Bloom's Taxonomy has helped create this exam. This standard has been met through my created google form chapter 7 exam and my test analysis. This artifact explains Standard 7 because it shows using assessments to evaluate students, Standard 7 states "uses assessment results to determine student performance levels, identify learning targets, select appropriate research-based instructional strategies, and implement instruction to enhance learning outcomes (7J). By calculating the test analysis I was able to easily compare and contrast student performance to gauge their level of understanding and be able to assess necessary changes in instruction moving forward. Secondly, Standard 7 states "effectively uses appropriate technologies to conduct assessments, monitor performance, and assess student progress" (7O). By creating this assessment on a google form and having the students take the exam on their technology devices I have also met this standard. Lastly, Standard 7 states "maintains useful and accurate records of student work and performance" (7M). By using a google form I am allowed to keep a record of student answers. Goals that I have for my physical education classroom is to maintain a sound mind and body with obtaining personal goals.
What I Learned:
I learned that by administering effective tests or quizzes I can begin to effectively assess my students. I have also learned many theories that can help me inside my classroom and really help me determine how to formulate an assessment. Most importantly I was taught (through creating this artifact) creating a positive environment can provide student achievement.
