Jefferson NHS - Requirements and Rules

Requirements

30 total hours
Hours from other organizations (band, JagCorps, etc.) do not count towards your NHS hours.
Hours from service projects are required and do not count toward your total. After completing 2 service projects, hours from subsequent service projects may count toward your total.
Seniors:
- - 25 hours are due by the end of Trimester 2 (March 5th, 2027)
  - 5 additional hours must be completed between March 5th and May 21st in order to earn a cord for graduation
Juniors:
- - 20 hours are due March 5th, 2027
  - 10 additional hours must be completed between March 5th and May 21st to remain in good standing for senior year
Service projects: TBA
Participation in fundraiser: TBA

Expectations

Maintain a 3.667 unweighted cumulative GPA.
Attend all mandatory meetings.
If you are unable to attend, please notify one of the student leaders before meeting.

Other Rules

If you are tutoring someone, they must be an underclassman (no juniors or seniors).
Helping family/friends with chores (i.e. shoveling snow, cleaning) do not count for volunteer hours.

Strike System

If you get three strikes you will be removed from NHS. Here is a list of a few of the reasons you could get a strike:

Failure to turn in hours (expulsion if hours not made up within 2 weeks of due date).
Failure to attend mandatory meetings without prior notification.
Failing to show up for an event or service project you signed up for.
Cumulative UW GPA dropping below 3.667 (expulsion if not brought up by following trimester).

You will be contacted when a strike occurs and for hours, will have a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency. Seniors will not receive a cord at graduation or recognition in the program if any of our requirements are not met.

For more serious offenses, such as not turning in hours at all or breaking academic integrity guidelines (cheating/plagiarism), you may be removed from NHS. Note: Strikes do follow members from year to year.
