Cemeteries – Look High and Low, Above and Below because there is often more than meets your eyes. Tips to locate them, examples of what is above ground, and stresses getting cemetery records to see what is really below ground.
Outline: Shows what information you can find at a cemetery.
Shows tombstones and monuments that are similar to individual data sheets, family group sheets, and the father’s line of an ancestor chart,
Examples of unique stones including some with photographs, showing occupations, accomplishments, and personal interests.
Reinforces the need to view the cemetery records
examples of records with obvious errors,
more people buried than the tombstones would indicate
tombstones where people are not buried.
Clues to help find where a person is buried:
Death Certificate, Probate File, Newspaper articles, Obituaries, and County Histories.
How to find a cemetery (GNIS, maps, and satellite images) and tips for the visit.
Talks about bodied being relocated when a new subway station is constructed in part of the cemetery
