Affected areas near Sacramento, California.
This extensive project aimed to simulate potential damage from large tsunamis in specific areas of California. Coastal regions with varying levels of seismic activity were assessed based on the potential impact of water elevation equivalent to the three most destructive tsunamis in recorded history.
Lompoc, characterized by relatively low seismic activity, was analyzed using 3D Sea Level Elevation models, indicating that potential damage would primarily affect its agricultural sector. The area's high cliffs and predominantly farmland suggest that coastal areas, particularly the surf zone, would be most susceptible.
In contrast, the San Francisco Bay Area would face significant impact if water were to reach similar elevations, potentially inundating inland areas up to the outskirts of Sacramento. Severe damage to both population centers and infrastructure is anticipated, as illustrated by 3D visuals demonstrating extensive land submersion during such an event.
