Final Course Reflection
Overall, I believe my writing has changed for the better over the course of the semester. My writing process has changed with each project I have done. For example, I learned that the planning and drafting process is just as, if not more important than the final product itself. This became apparent to me primarily during Project 4, where having organized data/statistics and a clear plan was critical to creating a successful webtext. I had also never had to do such multimodal assignments in an English course before. Specifically for Project 2, the podcast was an entirely new platform for me. Although I struggled with the technological aspects of creating a podcast, I managed to figure it out and produce an assignment I was proud of. The Project 3 poster was also out of my comfort zone as I had never been asked to create an informative poster that contained as much information as ours did. But, in the end I believe the poster turned out quite well and that we did a good job using sources and outside information. I struggled a lot during the first project at the start of the semester. Although I did pull information from my sources, there were many mistakes and clear room for improvement. I believe that from the first project to the last, my ability to cite, analyze information, and put sources into conversation with each other has significantly improved.
The most important aspect I will take away from this class is how to properly find scholarly articles and not only quote them as I did in the past, but analyze and take away from their main idea on a more complex level. English 1102 pushed my boundaries as a writer. I have always felt confident in my abilities to write a formal paper and looking back I realize that I was not pushed outside my comfort zone as I was in this class. Even though some of it was new and not always easy to get done, I know I have learned a lot and broadened my horizons in other forms of writing. I feel very positive about the outcome of this course and my projects, and am excited to take my improved skills to the next challenging course.
Thank you for taking your time to explore my portfolio and for the opportunity to research a topic I feel passionately about.
