Standard 12: Data and Program Improvement (ACTE 12)

What
My legacy project proposal focuses on increasing structured Work-based Learning (WBL) and Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) opportunities within the Minden Agricultural Education Program. This project addresses a program need identified through my Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA), which revealed inconsistent SAE participation and limited integration of WBL's into existing program structures. Data sources that informed this proposal included CNA, discussions with my cooperating teacher and principal, and observations of the current program. This project represents a structured program alignment improvement by embedding SAE and WBL more intentionally into the program.
So What
This proposal demonstrates ACTE Element 12 by using data to guide decision-making and program improvement. The CNA data clearly indicated a gap between student participation and their engagement in SAE and WBL experiences. Rather than creating a project based on wants, I used evidence to prioritize a need that directly impacts students' skill development and career development. The needs assessment shaped my project design by identifying both the problem (low SAE/WBL engagement). Based on the data, I designed my greenhouse student-based enterprise as a way to embed SAE and WBL directly into the program rather than treating them as separate experiences. This allows students to actively participate in hands-on production, record-keeping, and learn how to run a business. Evidence from my CNA and discussions with my cooperating teacher supported the idea that students need more accessible opportunities to engage in real-world agricultural experiences. By utilizing the greenhouse that is being built, this proposal reflects intentional and realistic improvement. It builds on the program's resources while addressing an identified gap. This makes it both sustainable and impactful for increasing student skill development.
Now What
This artifact demonstrates my readiness to engage in continuous program improvements as a CTE educator by using data to make informed decisions for meaningful change. I have learned how to analyze program data, identify gaps, and design solutions that are aligned with student needs. One key takeaway I will carry forward is the importance of embedding experiential learning opportunities directly into program structure rather than relying on student initiative alone. During my student teacher and early career, I will continue to use needs assessment data and stakeholder input to guide program decisions. I will focus on creating structured, student-centered learning opportunities to increase real-world application and improve the overall program.
