Jazzy Ash
Jazzy Ash grew up in an environment immersed in music. Raised by a mother from New Orleans and a father from Trinidad, jazz and Caribbean music filled her daily life. Additionally, her mother's in home day care exposed Jazzy Ash to children's music early on. While Jazzy Ash grew up in California, she developed a strong connection to her mother's native NOLA, where she would visit her aunts and grandparents during the summer. After earning a degree in early childhood development, Jazzy Ash combined her passion for music and experience with children to establish the music education program Leaping Lizards Music. Jazzy Ash continued to visit New Orleans, strengthening her connection to the city and its music.
Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards have developed an impressive performance history, performing at world renown venues such as the Lincoln Center and Symphony Space in New York, Getty Center in California, World Cafe in Philidelphia, Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, and Ann Arbor Summer Festival to name a few. In addition to performing with her band, Jazzy Ash continues to teach performing arts to children, as well as music education to teachers. Recently, Jazzy Ash has taught workshops at National HeadStart, NAEYC, and MaxFunCon. Many major publications have also featured Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards, including NPR and the LA Times. Furthermore, Jazzy Ash's music frequently tops the Children's Music Charts.
