'Heartstrings' explores The Finger Players, a theatre company that celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. Through interviews with Tan Beng Tian (Chairman and Co-Founder) and Myra Loke (General Manager and Core Team member), this video highlights the company’s work in sparking meaningful conversations through the art of puppetry.
The Finger Players designs and creates puppets, performs in local and international productions, and advocates for puppetry in all communities. Through training programmes and outreach initiatives, the company strives to nurture new talent as well as promote the craft of puppetry to the broader public.
Puppetry has the power to entertain, educate, and uplift audiences of all ages and backgrounds. Using puppets to tell stories and convey messages helps address important social and emotional themes, offering audiences a safe space to reflect and connect with one another.
In 2024, I decided to make a series of three videos, each as a solo project. As social media videos in 9:16 vertical orientation, these projects are relatively simple and less complex. Thus I wanted to challenge myself to complete them 100% on my own. This involved contacting each organisation featured, making preparations for the shoot, recording the visuals required, conducting the interviews featured, and editing the videos in Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe After Effects. It was a rewarding experience!
