Selected Performance Reviews
In this section, I provide my performance reviews during my time at Polk State College.
College algebra is a lower-division course at Polk State College comprised mainly of students who are not math majors. This course is intended for students whose programs of study require a strong background in college-level algebra, or those who need preparation for more advanced mathematics courses. Topics include general properties of functions; the graphs of linear, absolute value, quadratic, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions; equations and inequalities associated with these functions; graphs and equations of circles; and systems of equations and inequalities.
During the observation, I had the students recall facts and details around the topic of lines. I then divided the students into groups and did a jigsaw activity where students worked together to use their knowledge of lines to solve a word problem.
In the report below, Bonny says that "it was discovered that required course topics were being omitted from the course." The topics required in these courses by the state of Florida were not made clear to me when I was hired for the position. During our follow-up meeting, Bonny even said that information was likely not told to me. Bonny also refers to me as being "silent" during the meeting and that I did not clarify that I would make the necessary corrections to meet the requirements. Even though I may not have articulated a plan during our follow-up meeting, I did put one in place to ensure the proper material would be covered by the end of the course.
