Effective instruction in schools should be based on the understanding of student needs, learning styles, and ability levels. Instruction must be designed to promote engagement amongst students and critical thinking through the use of a myriad of teaching strategies. Instruction must have clear learning objectives to ensure students understand expectations and have a path to success.
This artifact is a lesson in which students will be able to identify the major causes of the Civil War. Explain how they contributed to the conflict. Analyze primary and secondary sources related to the Civil War, evaluating their credibility and reliability. Explain the significance of key events and individuals in the Civil War, such as the Emancipation Proclamation and Abraham Lincoln. Lastly, describe the impact of the Civil War on the United States, including changes to the country's political, economic, and social systems. I will introduce the students to various concepts and movements related to the civil war. Throughout the lesson, students will be assessed using rubrics aligned to Danielson's Domain 3: Instruction, which includes evaluating student learning and providing feedback to guide further education.
A check-up quiz can be used as a formative assessment tool to measure students' understanding of the content covered in class. An instructor can measure progress toward the lessons' objectives through the use of a check-up quiz. This can also help to provide the instructor with feedback on how practical their lesson is. The results of a quiz can help an educator identify where the students are struggling. This quiz correlates with the previously mentioned lesson plan on Civil War Social Movements. The quiz utilizes pictures that were used throughout the instructional PowerPoints in class, encouraging students to make connections.
