Getting the commission for this work has been one of my greatest honors yet.
Forevermore March was written for the retirement of my high school band director. An expert in the American march tradition, it was only fitting to write a march for him that built upon those ideals. Most of the piece is original and hints at various marches from the canon, except for the the theme at the Trio. It is a favorite hymn of Mr. Masemann’s, “Beautiful Savior,” and works perfectly in that position. The first time we hear the hymn, it is played by a solo trumpet, Mr. Masemann’s instrument. The repition of the theme builds into the grand finale as the hymn soars against a full counter melody. The title of this piece comes from the line of the final verse of “Beautiful Savior” and stands as a reminder to the long-lasting impact Mr. Masemann has had on students across his many years of teaching.
