Flight

Beer and brass! What a combo, stretching back hundreds of years. This is merely my addition to that tradition and literally combining the two. Written for the Iowa State University Brass Faculty, it also plays into the humors of their personalities. It is now available through H and H Publishing. It is a bit unique in it's instrumentation, being for brass quartet with optional Congas rather than a true brass quintet.

This piece attempts to take the liveliness of beer and adapt it to a brass quartet; as such, most of this work is in the style of fun rather than perfection. This is most evident in the final movement, Sour, where the Conga part is optional. It is a great thing to have if your quartet can get an additional person for the one movement, but is not required.

If this work is being done in association with a bar, brewery, or any establishment that serves these drinks, it can be great to pair the movements with some light discussion before each movement is played so that audience members might pair their drinks with the music even better.
