James 4:13-17
God Knows All Things
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.” 16 As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. 17 Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.
It seems we often (sometimes without knowing it or thinking about it) take God and God's will for granted...St. James encourages us to ask for God's will be done in the things we do each day...If we are traveling, working, or doing a future project St. James tells us to say something like, "God willing, tomorrow (or next week) I am going on vacation."...We could also say or just be thinking, "If it is God's will, then I will be doing this tomorrow or the next day."...He encourages us not to become presumptuous in our future plans and include God in them...God is always in control, He is sovereign, and has the final word...
