Matthew 10:28
Fear the One Who Can Kill the Soul
28 Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
James 3:13-18
Two Kinds of Wisdom
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. 14 But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. 15 Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. 16 For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
17 But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.18 Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.
Ambition can be defined as a strong desire to do or to achieve something, typically requiring determination and hard work...Great leaders possess ambition...I marvel at the ambition of the different leaders and CEOs around the world...So when I think of the Great leaders and presidents and CEOs of the world, I often think of the ambitions they have in making things better and their companies and countries better...The great leaders have this innate indwelt ambition...But I marvel even more of a poor Nazarene, who grew up around Galilee, who was a poor Judean Carpenter...And I think about what His ambitions might have been growing up around Nazareth...And This Leader seems to have more love and wisdom and peace and forgiveness than ambition...
But what was the poor Judean Carpenter's ambitions in life...He had no desire to lead men and women to make a company or organization or a product better...He really did not lead men to think about their countries to make them better...But He was a Jew who came for the poor souls and the sheep of Israel...He came into this world to tell us about God and the mysteries of heaven, the Spirit, and the soul...He came to touch the souls of men and women and not with any selfish ambition...So, He came for men, and came for all men, both Jew and Gentile...And He came specifically to touch our souls...And I mean to literally touch our souls...And He did not have a long tenure...He taught about these things for only three years..
He was a Man like no other, a Man who came to talk to us about our souls...Think about this, what other man or leader has came around to teach us about the soul and the importance of the soul?...What great leader has taught us about salvation and the need to have a Redeemer?...He teaches us that the One we should fear is not the one who can harm our bodies, rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell...Who, before Him or who after Him, teaches us what the soul that is inside each of us means?...And the soul is not made of matter or have a physical existence, and yet He went around teaching us about these intangible things and these things not made of matter...He taught about the things we could not see...Jesus taught and teaches the eternities...And because the soul is not made of matter it cannot be physically touched...Or can it be touched?...I believe it can...And this is part of His ambition to show us the soul could be touched...And when one believes that the soul can be touched, we see that He has taught us another one of the things He came for...He has taught us faith...A faith that touches the soul...
And when we think about that, what can be more important?...
