Recent and current work
Much of my recent research time has been on the broad topic of Inequalities over the life-cycle. Having been a panel member for the IFS Deaton Review I was closely involved in commissioning and editing all of the evidence for the review, and was also a co-author of the final book, published in 2026 by Princeton University Press. A spin-off project involves teams from 17 countries constructing harmonised micro data on the evolution of various labour market inequalities to facilitate comparative work on trends in inequality. In a totally different strand of work I have an ongoing paper on constructing statistical bounds for inequality indices in the presence of incomplete data.

I also have ongoing research in issues related to health and health inequalities, although in recent years that has mainly focusing on disability at older ages and it's implications for the labour market pre-retirement and for long-term care post retirement. I am a currently member of the UK team for the NBER Long Term Care around the World comparative project. I have also started working with Melanie Jones (Cardiff) on a Nuffield funded research project understanding the dynamics of labour market outcomes for people with muscularskeletal conditions.
