I've always had a sideline as a musician. It started as a chorister in St. Albans Cathedral Choir under Peter Hurford where, in addition to the singing for the day to day services in the cathedral we would be regularly on the radio, recording and touring in the UK and Europe.  Following that I spent some time as a classical cellist playing chamber music in London and the South East. 

During my undergraduate studies I got more into jazz, blues, and R&B so when I moved back to London in 1990 I took up the saxophone and spent the next ten or so years playing in various contexts around London, including the mighty MoCity, a now well defunct 70's covers band that used to play gigs and functions in London and all over the UK. In more recent years I've gravitated to the bass so I'm playing all kinds of music again, this time in Manchester, the Peak District and around the North West.  

I play double bass for the Amaretti Chamber Orchestra, Athenean Ensemble and High Peak Orchestra, and can also be regularly found in double bass sections for the likes of the Hazel Grove Orchestra, Macclesfield Symphony Orchestra, Gorton Philharmonic Orchestra, Lancashire Chamber Orchestra, Dark Peak Light Orchestra and Ensemble Laus Deo. 

I've been the pit bassist for the recent Bowden Theatre Works productions of Big, Annie and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang at the New Mills Art Theatre and play various jazz gigs in the South Manchester area.  I've also been enjoying playing jazz piano and bass duos with fellow economist and ex-UCL PhD student Marco Angrisani on the rare occasions we can get together.  You can hear the results of our latest meeting here
