The addition of a 3rd vortex, which rotates fluid around its axis in the same manner as the vortex pair, appears to break the nice conservation structure discussed for the two vortex case. Now, the vortex dynamics give rise to deterministic chaos as the vortices oscillate and rotate around each other in a never-repeating manner.
