Similar to the co-rotating pair, a trio of vortices which rotate the fluid in the same direction around their respective axes exhibit self-similar solutions, where the shape of the vortices becomes zoomed in as time evolves. However, contrary to the pair, the addition of a third vortex introduces an element of chaos; more specifically, of an aperiodicity of the trio's shape in space and time.
