Co-rotating vortices are those which rotate the fluid in the same direction around their respective axes. A surprising result that I found is that for such vortex pairs, there appears to be a conservation law linking the separation of the pair with its rotation and curvature, such that complicated looking periodic solutions, like the one in the simulation, can actually exist.
