Dr. James Chen received his dental degree (DDS, 1986) in Taiwan. He came to the United States in 1988 to further his dental education and to specialize in the field of orthodontics.

1990 - University of Pittsburgh M.S. in anatomy and histology

1994 - Northwestern University Ph.D. in oral biology

1997 - University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Orthodontic certificate

He has been practicing orthodontics in the Bay Area since 1997 and in private practice since 1999. In January 1998, Dr. Chen joined the faculty of UCSF to teach orthodontics to the dental students and the post-graduate students of pediatric dentistry. He is currently appointed as Clinical Professor at UCSF.
