Building a SolidWorks Environment / SolidWorks使用環境の構築
(If you have already purchased the software, please proceed to “How to use SolidWorks”.)
JAIST offers two methods for using SolidWorks 2022 for free. The first method is to borrow installation media from the Research Center for Advanced Research Computing Infrastructure and install it on a local PC. The other method is to use SolidWorks 2020 installed in the JAIST cloud desktop environment.
Please refer to the website of the Research Center for Advanced Research Computing Infrastructure for instructions on how to use the JAIST Cloud Desktop Environment.

SolidWorks 2022 has an extensive Tutorial, and you can learn the basics of how to use it in about two hours.
Launch SolidWorks
Click Help>Tutorials
Select the content you want to learn about
For beginners, it is difficult to understand some of the operations in the tutorials. In this case, please refer to the Q&A for the tutorials or ask a question to the MachineShop staff using the MachineShop website’s Inquiry form.

About the drafting method / 製図法について
You will be able to draw simple drawings using SolidWorks Tutorials alone (this is often sufficient for most of the requests that come to the JAIST machineshop). However, the knowledge learned in Tutorial is not enough to create drawings that accurately represent complex geometries and parts that need to be Machined with high precision. In that case, you need to learn the drafting method.

・What is a drawing template file?
A drawing template file is an empty file that you open when you create a new 3D model or drawing file. They appear on the File>New>Tutorial tab.

We have created a template file for JAIST drawings. Download it and use it.
・For SolidWoks2022 installed in the JAIST Cloud Desktop Environment
The drawing template file (.DRWDOT) must be saved to Local Disk(C:). However, in the cloud desktop environment, the Local Disk is no longer visible, so you cannot modify the drawing template file either.
・For SolidWorks 2022 installed on a local PC
Please save it to the following address. Note that you can change the template file reference folder in Tool>Options>System Options tab>File locations>Show folders for:Document Templates.

This file is used when you want to change the drawing format you are editing to another format. You can prepare various sheet format files to change from A4 to A3, or from a horizontal drawing to a vertical drawing.

If you are using your local PC to replace template files with the original ones, you may not use them very often. However, users using SolidWorks in the JAIST Cloud Desktop environment will only be able to open the SolidWorks default template file when creating a new drawing, so you will need to prepare a drawing sheet format file in advance and change the default format to You need.

The sheet format files in the folder that is set as the reference folder for the drawing sheet format will be displayed. To select a sheet format saved in another folder, click the Browse button.

まず図面上で右クリック。
Properties>Sheet Properties>Sheet Format/Size
図面シートフォーマットの参照フォルダとして設定されているフォルダに入ったシートフォーマットファイルが表示されます。その他のフォルダに保存したシートフォーマットを選択したい場合は参照ボタンをクリックしてください。

Open the drawing file you want to edit > Right-click on the drawing > click Edit Sheet Format
When you’re done editing,
Right click on the drawing > click Edit Drawing Sheet
then,
File > Save Sheet Format
Please make the following changes to the drawing template file as well.
First, check the location of the drawing template file in What is a drawing template file? in Q&A and open the drawing template file you usually use from File>open.
Right-click on the drawing
Properties>Sheet Properties>Sheet Format/Size
Save and close the drawing template file with the newly created sheet format selected.

編集が終わったら、
図面上で右クリック>図面シート編集
そして、
ファイル>シートフォーマットの保存
図面テンプレートファイルにも以下の変更を行ってください。
まず、Q＆Aの図面テンプレートファイルとは？で図面テンプレートファイルの保存場所を確認にして、File>openから普段使用する図面テンプレートファイルを開いてください。
図面上で右クリック
Properties>Sheet Properties>Sheet Format/Size
新しく作ったシートフォーマットを選択した状態で図面テンプレートファイルを保存して閉じます。
