A side-scroll action platformer where players can switch between characters to fight enemies and evade obstacles
Balloon Kingdom’s mightiest heroes travel across faraway lands to fight the Clown King and his subjects, in hopes of retrieving back the “Golden Pump”, that will help grant the Balloon Kingdom eternal inflation (eternal life)
The theme of the game is a silly fantasy adventure, referencing some aspects of Nintendo games such as Kirby and Mario, as well as games like Cuphead.
As the Art Lead, I was responsible for defining and upholding the game’s overall visual style. My role encompassed character design, animation, environment and level design, as well as UI development, ensuring a cohesive and visually engaging experience throughout. For this project, I illustrated and animated each character frame by frame in Adobe Illustrator, using Adobe After Effects to refine the motion and achieve smooth, fluid animation.
The game’s art style uses a lot of bright colours both in the environment design and in the character designs.
the bright colours shown in the colour palette have a good mixture of bright and funky colours, as well as some neutral colours so that the colours are not too distracting from the actual gameplay.
The fonts chosen above are all San serif fonts, with slightly rounded edges. This is to tie in with the general balloon aesthetic of the game, as it’s both fun and bubbly, not too jarring or sharp so that it does not take away from the look and feel of the environment in the game
