The Product:
Lee Lee's is a website that offers a variety of recipes from the southern region of the United States. It's simple and easy to navigate and search whatever southern recipe you're craving.
Project Duration:
December 2022 to December 2022
The goal was design an easy to use responsive website for individuals who love southern food. My role was UX designer, designing a site prototype from conception to function. Responsibilities were conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high-fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, and iterating on designs.
I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I'm designing for and their needs. A primary group of users were busy individuals who wanted to look up simple and quick recipes. Research confirmed that this user group really wanted a site that only had recipes and videos, not backstory paragraphs.
Navigation, interactivity, and accessibility were my top three pain points
Navigation was my number one pain point with users. So I created a sitemap.
Next I sketched out paper wireframes for the screens in my app. I kept the user pain points in mind.
Because Lee Lee's users access the site on a variety of different devices, I started to work on designs for additional screen sizes.
Going from paper to digital wireframes made it easy to understand how the redesign could help address the user pain points and improve the user experience.
To create a lo-fi prototype, I connected all of the screens involved in the primary user flow of navigating through pages and adding a search page and leading to a recipe.
I learned that even a simple design with fulfilling recipes can have a huge impace on the user experience. The most important takeaway for me is to always focus on the real needs of the user when coming up with design ideas and solutions. My next steps are to continue to conduct more usability studies and identify any new problems and areas that need solutions.
