From samples to sequences: An introduction to DNA metabarcoding

A major challenge in biodiversity research is the identification of the often thousands of specimens sampled. This is especially difficult in hyperdiverse groups such as arthropods. In recent years, DNA metabarcoding has emerged as an immensely practical tool for identifying large, diverse biological samples in a fast and cost-effective manner. In this 5-day workshop, you will learn the principles behind DNA metabarcoding from the collection of data, to the preparation of libraries and data analysis. In addition to a theoretical component, you will also participate in hands-on activities including field sampling, lab work, sequence processing and data analysis.

Applications are invited from students/researchers/professionals interested in DNA metabarcoding. If you have already generated data or plan to use DNA metabarcoding in your research, please mention it in the write-up with brief details regarding the project. The number of seats is strictly limited to 20. However, the participants have to take care of their travel. Boarding and lodging will be available for the selected participants at LaCONES (subject to the availability of rooms in the guest house), the cost will be borne by the participant.
