'Breaking The Mold' was inspired by the internal struggle of whether or not we are meant to do something or be someone. In our society there is a lot of pressure to fit the mold determined by your gender, sexuality, age, and appearance. In that way, we often talk ourselves out of pursuing our passions and down the line hit a "midlife crisis' where we struggle a transition of identity and self confidence. This story is about a giant potter that faces an everyday struggle when his large size hinders his pursuit of the fine art of pottery-making. A feel-good film that targets adults who might be struggling over whether they are happy with the state of their lives and questioning starting over. Our potter is a middle-aged man whose giant stature makes him seem picture perfect for sports or even construction. He did pursue those things for a time but his gentle disposition and desire to create quickly left him unstatisfied with the state of his life. He decides to start over and pursue pottery-making. It is at this point where our film begins. The potter enters his studio and quickly gets into the groove of making his next pottery piece. We see him meticulously go through the steps of shaping the mug, adding details, and firing it in the kiln. It is at the moment when he goes to glaze the mug and reaches for his paint brush does he accidently knock his creation off his work table and it breaks into pieces. Instead of letting this setback get to him he quickly gathers the broken pieces and adds them to a growing pile of broken pottery that is revealed to be used to make new mosaics and fairy planters for his garden. This film ends on a high note with an element of humor to give hope to those who are trying new things and encourage everyone to not give up on what makes them happy just because it might break the mold.
