Research

During my research I was able to better understand the benefits for both mental health and physical health when going to the gym. I always knew that working out was beneficial for mental health, but I never knew exactly how that was and the process of it. During my internet research I found a site called Athletico that described this process in a way that I really understood. In short, they said that when people exercise the body releases chemicals that boost your sense of well-being and suppress hormones that cause stress and anxiety. The exact chemicals released from the body through this process are called “endorphines”, “serotonin”, and “dopamine” which are related to pain and depression emotions.

In my peer reviewed research I found an article which summarized the benefits of a University Recreation Center, which is what my whole campaign is about. The article stated how having this type of service provided to students is extremely beneficial for their physical health while also offering relief from the stress of college academics which benefits their mental health as well.
