There has been a lot of discourse about Barçelona's decline, especially after the departure of Neymar and Messi. I decided to take a look at their passing, a staple of the 'tiki-taka' style that they dominated with in the late 2000s and early 2010s.

Surprisingly, 20/21 Barça played more short and medium-length passes and significantly more passes on the ground than "prime" 11/12 Barça.
20/21 Barça also played more passes backwards or sideways instead of forward. They certainly seem to have adopted the possession style they are famous for, but have they fallen into the dangerous trap of "possession without a purpose"?
